On 12/11/07 and man was walking his dog through the woods on Higgins and Sutton Road in Hoffman Estates.  A skinny kitten came walking out onto to path and initially he thought nothing of it.  After walking 1 1/2 miles back to his car he noticed that the kitten was still following him.  He reached down to pet her, feeling most of her ribs and backbone, but yet the kitten purred away.  So he took her in his truck over to the PetsMart on the corner to have the vet at Banfields look at her.  Besides being thin, infested with fleas, the doctor found an oozing wound about mid way on her tail, and still she purred and gave head rubs to all.  Strays Halfway House was called to see if they could take her in.  The kind doctor and his staff gave her a flea bath, dewormed her and tested her for FIV and Leukemia and held her over for the night.  When she was picked up the next day she was literally hugging her new foster mom and giving head butts, and the SHH volunteer was told that the man that found her, had come back into the store to see how she was doing.  Sutton was then taken to Spring Valley Veterinary Clinic and checked by Dr. Flanagan.  Sutton weighed in at 4.8 pounds and was then aged at 8 months old.  No fever, fleas all gone, her fecal was negative and the bottom half of her tail was already necrotic, so Sutton was put on antibiotics and scheduled for surgery.  The surgery went great, the stitches have been removed, and Sutton weighed in at 6.6, looks great and now ready for adoption.

Update: Sutton was adopted by a very nice lady in Schaumburg that wanted a companion for her 2 year old male cat.  When she came to see Sutton at her foster home, she instantly fell in love with her friendliness and didn't mind, or really even notice, her short tail. She took her home on Friday and her boy was wide eyed when he first saw her. He followed her around as Sutton checked out her new home.  Sutton hopped right into bed with her new Mom at night and even took his favorite spot on the pillow, he didn't care, he was happy to have a new sister and playmate.  By Sunday they were running around and playing together with all the toys.  Judy said she never saw her boy so playful and happy, and still starry eyed!

Even though Sutton has found a home we still need your help to defray her medical costs. Thanks to everyone who has generously donated thus far.

PS:  Sutton wants to thank the kind man that found her, even though she doesn't even know his name!
